Fireplace Mantle

We designed and built this mantle to slip over an existing brick fireplace. Atop the brick surround, there was a simple wooden mantle built by the homeowner about 20 years ago. The brick was outdated, so they wanted to freshen up their space without committing to a complete tear out and rebuild. We were able to create a design that allowed us to slip the entire mantle and assembly over the existing in one piece.

Construction

Since the piece was to be painted in place, a mix of MDF and Poplar were chosen to complete the build. Poplar for all of the structure, mouldings, and trim details, and MDF for the large returns that the columns made to the wall, covering the depth of the existing fireplace surround.

Before

As you can see, this fireplace surround was due for an update. We’re happy to have executed our customers needs, while working under unique circumstances by dealing with the existing material.
